2. Failure factors in IT projects
In the 1990s, a famous report, "The Chaos Report", published by the Standish Group, established that the failure rate observed in the United States was in the order of 30 to 40%, depending on the size of the company; that around 50% of projects required very serious ablations to see the light of day, with the added bonus of increased costs and delays; and that only 10 to 15% were completed in line with the initial objectives. These statistics have never been denied as far as Europe is concerned, and we can say without fear of contradiction that everyone is in the same boat: particularly mediocre performance, even though, according to the Standish Group , the situation has improved somewhat since then.
