3. Parallels with military radio surveillance

In the military field, from the first radio sets developed by General Férie and the beginnings of radio surveillance, with the first known interceptions during the First World War (radio message sent in 1918 by Prince Maximilian of Baden, Chancellor of the Reich, requesting Pope Benedict XV's mediation for an armistice, intercepted by sapeur télégraphiste Alexis Tendil of the 8th Engineer Regiment on the Chemin des Dames), the intensive use of radio communications became a central component of operational management on the one hand, and of intelligence on the other.
