2. Visualization of moving targets

2.1 Principles

Most radars work in an environment cluttered with fixed or slow-speed echoes (ground, sea, clouds, rain, snow, etc.). The aim is to eliminate these unwanted echoes, which are perceived by the radar and whose presence hinders the detection of interesting targets.

  • A number of so-called fixed echo elimination (FEE) processes can be used, based on the natural properties of fixed echoes: shape, distance, location, evolution over time. All these procedures involve a more or less fine-grained purification of these fixed echoes, and only restore the target echo if its amplitude is greater than that of the superimposed fixed echo or, at best, if it is not confused with a fixed echo.
