2. Physical sound field reconstruction

The second family of approaches to spatial sound reproduction is based on physical rather than perceptual foundations, and aims to reconstruct for the listener's ears the sound field that would be created by the sound sources in the reproduction space if they were real. Unlike previous approaches, they also enable the definition of dual recording systems, adapted to the playback mode. This last point is particularly useful for the rendering of realistic 3D sound scenes recorded in the field, rather like "image-based rendering" techniques in graphics.
