3. Conclusion
This article has detailed two types of digital media container-formats: those intended for transport, and those that have come to be known as "mega-container-formats".
With regard to classic transport container formats, such as AES or HDMI for links, or Transport Stream TS for distribution, the variety of encapsulable media formats has grown. Another development is the use of the IP family of container formats for audio/video transport over the corresponding networks.
In the field of mega-format containers, we are continuing to implement the MXF format in the professional sector, with various media essence formats and encapsulable metadata, as well as a variety of operating configurations.
The development of digital cinema has contributed to the implementation of media file clusters, such as DCDM, DCP and IMF....
