1. NICAM and L-SECAM modulations
Since TDF has chosen NICAM as the standard for broadcasting digital sound associated with television, a digital carrier modulated in four phase states (PSK4) must be added to the L-SECAM multiplex. This carrier is located 5.85 MHz above the picture carrier and 650 kHz below the sound carrier. The level of the unmodulated AM sound carrier is 10 or 16 dB lower than that of the image.
1.1 NICAM data multiplex
The sound-data multiplex is organized in a 728-bit frame lasting 1 ms (728 kbit/s). It is composed of :
8-bit alignment word ;
5 bits of control information ;
11 additional data bits ;
