2. Image coding

This section successively presents the techniques for coding video images, still images and textures, as well as computer-generated visual objects.

2.1 MPEG video coding and MPEG-4 enhancements

In the content of a video sequence, there are several types of information: recurring, predictable and unpredictable. Information that recurs or can be predicted is redundant information. Video bitrate reduction, or video coding, takes advantage of various aspects of this information redundancy.
