6. Betacam IMX format
It's the latest and perhaps simply the last of the VCRs, given the recent introduction of disks or memory cards as high-performance storage media behind the cameras.
Betacam IMX is covered by the SMPTE 365M standard and is known as D-10.
6.1 Recorded signals
As far as video is concerned, these signals comply with the MPEG-2 4:2:2P@ML standard, but in I-frames only – or GOP 1 – to facilitate editing operations. Remember that this signal is characterized by 4:2:2 sampling and by a recording of 608 video signal lines (625 lines) instead of the usual 575, which means that information can be retained in the blanking interval, including the vertical interval time code (VITC).
