2. Container formats and HD

They are the indispensable "form" for acquiring, recording, searching, consulting, storing, editing, converting, transferring, archiving and distributing digital media – in their native or compressed format – by encapsulating them, hence the term "wrapper", or more explicitly "container".

These container formats include :

  • container-formats dedicated to digital media storage, including :

    • file formats for computer storage,

    • of sounds : AIFF, WAVE...,

    • still images : GIF, JPG, .PNG, TIFF...,

    • video (and multimedia) : AVI, MOV, MPG, MP4... ; AAF, MXF...,
