5. Real uses specific to Metavers
5.1 New uses compared to virtual or augmented reality
As already indicated, the question is whether a metaverse is necessary for a given use, bearing in mind that virtual reality and augmented reality applications are effective and perfectly meet the needs of users and companies in many fields without the use of a metaverse: industrial design, training, health, architecture, etc. The extra cost of operating in a metaverse is not negligible, and needs to be seriously studied in terms of proven effectiveness, under anthropo-technical constraints, and economic and ecological extra costs. Another question is whether a metaverse is necessary in view of all the uses already proposed on the Internet with Web 2.0.
