2. How can we reduce data center consumption?
As the power consumption of the processors used in servers and storage is entirely converted into heat, data centers need to cool their IT equipment to keep it operational.
Data center consumption is therefore equal to the product of IT equipment consumption and the data center's PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness). This PUE takes into account additional consumption due to cooling and losses linked to electrical conversions. To reduce the energy consumption of a data center, it is therefore necessary to reduce both the consumption of IT equipment and the PUE. A further way of reducing data center consumption is to reuse the heat generated by IT equipment (waste heat).
