The process of configuring and activating BGP has the following disadvantages:
need to configure all BGP peers explicitly to prepare for the establishment of BGP sessions ;
need for an AS number to accept a BGP connection ;
no mechanism for automatically establishing BGP sessions ;
no mechanism to harmonize the configuration of BGP session parameters within a domain.
