2. Internet approach

Following the example of the ITU-T, the Internet community, and more specifically the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) with its Multimedia Multiparty Session Control (MMUSlC) working group, has defined a general framework for multimedia communication on the Internet. This framework is presented in a document not yet finalized [7] . The approach is similar to that of the ITU-T, in the sense that the recommended architecture (figure 4 ) goes beyond IP telephony to encompass audiovisual, point-to-point and multipoint communications, and even mass broadcasting.
