2.1 Goals
It's all about getting a network of heterogeneous systems (from PCs to mainframes) to cooperate and work together, despite any damage that may occur as a result of incidents or user actions.
Information systems are made up of a huge variety of resources, all of which need to be carefully monitored to ensure an efficient open systems environment. These resources are very varied in nature (printers, software, processors, etc.). It is only by considering these resources abstractly as managed objects that we can treat them all with the same approach. The basic concepts of management, including operation, administration and maintenance, can be applied to all IS components and associated services.
