4. Which routing protocol?

Preliminary efforts by the IETF through the creation of the 6lowpan group (which produced RFC 4944 describing an IPv6 header compression method for transporting packets over IEEE 802.15.4 networks) clearly recognized the need for an IP "level" routing solution.

With this in mind, an initial analysis of existing routing protocols (in terms of service traffic volumes, for example, see table 2 ) was carried out, supplemented by three documents describing the specific needs and constraints of domestic, urban and industrial environments.
