By extension, the spin conversion phenomenon can be extended to other systems. Phosphorescence, for example, involves the irradiation of a triplet spin state, which relaxes radiatively to the singlet ground state. The change in multiplicity is basically a photo-induced spin conversion. The difference with the spin-conversion compounds discussed in this article is that the relaxation of phosphorescent compounds is light-emitting, while that of spin-conversion compounds is not.
