5.1 Operating principle

Conceived by Andrew Haeff at RCA in 1939 and formerly known as "klystrodes" by Don Priest, who made the first practical use of them at EIMAC (now CPI) around 1980, IOTs (Inductive Output Tubes) borrow from both triodes and klystrons. From triodes, they inherit the technology of direct beam modulation by a grid....
