3. Software upgrades

Originally, graphics processors were designed to accelerate graphics processing routines. However, the advent of CUDA marked a turning point in terms of commercial strategy on the part of the major manufacturers.

3.1 GPU market share

In 2007, three main manufacturers shared the graphics processor market, with Intel accounting for approximately 30% of sales volumes, Nvidia for 30% and AMD for 20%. Intel rapidly consolidated its leadership position, reaching 70% of sales volumes in 2017, well ahead of Nvidia with 16% and AMD with 14%. Intel's leading position is due to the sales volume of graphics processors embedded with other components such as APUs.
