1. Management and control of the "production-transport" system. Presentation

The "power system" is the set of interconnected electrical installations that deliver kilowatt-hours generated from primary energy sources such as hydro, fossil fuels, nuclear fission, wind power and, to a lesser extent, direct solar power, to all electricity users.

  • Within an electrical system, we traditionally distinguish three interrelated stages with different functions (figure 1 ).

    • The first stage is the production of electricity for delivery to consumers. It is made up of plants, often called "power stations", which convert primary energies into kilowatt-hours, the real sources of the energy consumed by electricity users.
