1. Variety of installations

The industrial fields concerned are so extensive that it is impossible to draw up an exhaustive list, and consequently to mention them all. It remains possible to appreciate this variety by limiting ourselves to their most representative criteria, of which we will mention just three.

1.1 Power and voltage

In industrial applications, statistical knowledge of the operating electrical power [1] assigned to a process enables us to estimate the size of each industrial site. This varies from a few hundred to a few tens of thousands of kilowatts; the resulting supply voltages vary from a few tens to a few hundreds of kilovolts, as shown in the table below.
