1. Requirements for substation construction

1.1 General

To build a high-voltage substation, a number of components need to be positioned and sized as accurately as possible in order to create the appropriate electrical diagram.

The layout of these components must meet certain conditions, dictated by the twin concerns of operational safety and the lowest possible cost of construction or operation. These construction conditions can be broken down into :

  • voltage conditions ;

  • conditions related to the thermal effects of current ;

  • safety conditions for operating personnel ;

  • conditions related to the mechanical stresses exerted on the structures ;
