3. Converter groups. Complex assemblies

The structures studied above (single-phase bridge or three-phase bridge) are the elementary structures directly used in small- and medium-power applications. For the sake of clarity, the power range of a single-phase bridge goes up to a few kilowatts, or even a few tens of kilowatts, but rarely more, while that of a three-phase bridge goes up to a few hundred kilowatts.

For high and very high power ratings, we use complex assemblies which are, in fact, series or parallel groupings of elementary structures. These groupings can also improve converter performance and offer additional control options.
