3.1 Blocking electrodes

Carbon remains the preferred material for blocking electrodes, especially as new varieties of activated carbon, activated fibers, aerogels and nanotubes continue to emerge. We now know how to obtain materials with a very high specific surface area, interesting chemical and electrochemical stabilities and acceptable electronic conductivities. Specific surface area is generally measured by the BET (Brunauer-Emmett-Teller) method [41] . Although indispensable, this measurement only gives a global view of the surface, and it remains important to characterize the pore size distribution by other methods, in order to know whether solvated ions can exploit all these pores to form an electrochemical double...
