5. Off-system units
Units that do not belong to the international system are referred to as units outside the system.
The use of some of them is legal because of their importance or usefulness in particular fields.
5.1 Units in use with the international system
The CIPM recognized that SI users will need to use certain units which are outside the SI, but which play an important role and are widely used. These are shown in tables 4 and 5 .
