3. Outlook
Redox-flow accumulators represent a special type of accumulator. Their current characteristics make them ideal for storage-type applications. In addition to what we've already said on this subject, their high response speed and their ability to be integrated into intermediate or high-power systems are further arguments in their favor. While storage systems with outputs and energies of up to 12 MW/120 MWh have been envisaged, modules with outputs as low as 5 kW are also available.
The polysulfide-polybromide and vanadium-vanadium systems described above are not the only ones developed to date (2005). We can also mention zinc-bromine technology, developed in the USA and Australia. The zinc-bromine battery features a zinc metal electrode. It is referred to as "hybrid redox". Unlike redox-flow batteries, its capacity is limited by the amount of zinc in the electrode....
