2. Solar energy
Every second, by transforming 700 million tonnes of hydrogen through an atomic fusion reaction, the sun produces energy equal to 386 billion billion megawatts (3.86 · 10 26 W). In the form of electromagnetic radiation, some of this energy reaches the earth's surface. Unlike other renewable energies, there are no problems with deposits: solar energy is available everywhere on our planet. Europe receives an average of 3 kWh per square meter every day. In countries where photovoltaic electricity is heavily subsidized, national programs such as "100,000 Solar Roofs" were launched in Germany in 1999.
