1. Line and cable modeling

1.1 Presentation

All models are imperfect and built on assumptions that more or less approximate reality. We generally assume that we're dealing with straight, parallel conductors of infinite length (we don't take edge effects into account); that's what we'll do.

It is customary to model the operation of a two-wire line by saying that each unit of line length is the seat of each of the phenomena mentioned in the introduction, and we represent them by the model in figure 2 , where R is the resistance of 1 m of line, L the inductance of 1 m of line, G and C the transverse conductance and capacitance of 1 m of line.
