2. Stator

The stator performs two functions: the electrical function of inductor, and the mechanical function of support and link between the various parts. It comprises a frame, a stack of laminations, a winding and various accessories. Let's take a look at these various points.

2.1 Carcass

Figure 2 shows a motor frame. Note the terminal box, cooling fins, flange seats and attachment points for accessories. It can be made of cast iron or aluminum. Aluminum injection molding machines can't produce large parts economically (the injection pressure required is too high)....
