2. Use of grain-oriented steel in rotating fields

The results given in this paragraph are largely based on the work of Samuel Lopez, who prepared his doctoral thesis at LSEE in partnership with ThyssenKrupp Electrical Steel.

2.1 Magnetic steels

Existing magnetic steels used in high-current applications are essentially made of iron-silicon alloys [D 2 110][E 1 750] . They are characterized by their ability to allow the magnetic field to circulate (permeability) and, above all, by the losses they generate.
