3. Current state of research

3.1 Preamble

The "heart" of the direct-oxidation liquid fuel cell is the assembly of membrane and MEA electrodes. This assembly is made up of five elements:

  • the liquid fuel diffusion layer at the anode;

  • the anodic catalytic layer;

  • the separating membrane ;

  • the cathodic catalytic layer;

  • the gas diffusion layer O 2 or air at the cathode.
