3. Generation of standing waves
Standing waves result from the interference generated by the travelling wave and the retrograde wave maintained by a source delivering sinusoidal signals. In this section, we'll look at various aspects of standing waves, from an examination of their most elementary properties to specific line operations. We'll look at the resonance of lines and, in a strictly opposite direction, their operation at wavelengths far greater than their longitudinal dimension. Finally, the question of the power carried or maintained in a line will be addressed, as well as the concepts of reflection coefficients and standing wave ratios.
