2. Wave equation and presentation of solutions
Following on from the previous paragraph, the second deals with other fundamental questions concerning the operation of transmission lines. We'll set up the telegrapher's equation, whose formulation leads naturally to the wave equation. Solving the wave equation will shed light on the role of the source and the load at both ends of the line. We'll also look at the strategic value of the complex formulation of the equations and solutions. Finally, the analysis will turn to the line's secondary parameters, as well as the concepts of progressive and retrograde waves.
