1.1 Why is it essential to protect individual and collective dwellings?
The number of burglaries continues to rise (see the statistics on the website of the Observatoire national de la délinquance et des réponses pénales [ONDRP], a department of the Institut national des hautes études de la sécurité et de la justice), so it's imperative to take maximum precautions, which isn't always easy because absolute security is very expensive, and requires a high level of discipline.
It's very difficult not to be caught unprepared, because, for example, it's impossible to lock up if you're away for a short time. So you need to put in place measures to delay access and deter burglars, bearing in mind that the majority of burglaries only last 5 minutes.
