5. Photovoltaic curtain walls and glass roofs

There's a lot of talk about buildings having to produce part of their energy under the RT 2012 (and future) regulations. Curtain walls and glass roofs are ideal for meeting this requirement. We have very large glazing surfaces, and it's now logical to use the new photovoltaic glazing, particularly in spandrels and, in some cases, in vision sections.

Photovoltaics will also be very well suited to double-skin façades. Projects are already underway.

The curtain wall structure can be similar to any other. However, you'll need to take into account all the wiring with connections to each volume of glazing.

Beware also of the risk of water ingress through these wire passages.
