4. Joining elements

The various tensile, compressive and shear forces exerted on the structure are absorbed by the connections between the various elements. These connections are of two types: traditional (i.e. without using any material other than wood) or using metal parts (points, bolts or connectors).

4.1 Traditional assemblies

Wood-on-wood assemblies come in a wide variety (figure 18 ). Let's take a look at the most common:
