ABSTRACT

This article addresses the construction systems for straw bale buildings, highlighting their characteristics, advantages, and implementation methods. It explores the main systems used, such as timber framing, prefabricated panels, and peripheral systems to the structure, and examines the criteria for selection based on the nature of the building, structural constraints, architectural expression, and the types of interior and exterior finishes desired.

Straw bale constructions offer an ecological and high-performance alternative in terms of thermal and acoustic insulation while meeting regulatory standards. However, they require precise design and sizing of the structures to ensure the building's stability and durability. The article also discusses the technical aspects related to the layout of the structure and the compression of straw bales, which are essential for optimizing the energy efficiency and performance of the constructions.

AUTHOR

 INTRODUCTION

Straw construction, once considered a rudimentary method, is now enjoying renewed interest due to its ecological, economical and high-performance qualities. The aim of this article is to provide an overview of straw building systems, focusing on their characteristics, advantages and constraints, as well as on the factors influencing the choice of these systems.

At a time when the sustainability and energy performance of buildings are becoming imperative, straw-bale construction is emerging as a relevant solution. Straw building systems, such as timber frames, prefabricated caissons and perimeter systems, offer the right answers to today's demands for thermal and acoustic comfort. These techniques can also meet the varied needs of residential, agricultural or public buildings, while guaranteeing a degree of architectural flexibility.

This article explores the different straw building systems, detailing their technical characteristics, implementation methods and the normative considerations involved. In addition, it discusses the determining factors in choosing a constructive system, such as the nature of the building, structural constraints, architectural expression and desired facing types. In this way, it offers a comprehensive and informed perspective to guide the choices of those involved in construction towards efficient and sustainable straw solutions.
