AES (emergency power supply)
A device that supplies electrical power to all or part of an SSI or emergency lighting system (SES) to enable it to perform its functions. A safety power supply must comply with the provisions of standard NFS 61-940.
General alarm
Audible signal to warn occupants to evacuate. The general alarm can be immediate or delayed.
Selective general alarm
General alarm limited to informing certain categories of personnel in a facility (e.g. care facilities, hospitals).
Restricted alarm
Audible and visual signal distinct from the general alarm signal, intended to warn the personnel designated to operate the alarm.
