4. Surface preparation

Surface preparation prior to repair is an essential step in the repair process: it not only removes the damaged concrete, but also makes the surface clean and rough, thus contributing to better adhesion of the repair system.

Surface preparation involves four basic steps :

• location of the area to be repaired ;

• removal of damaged concrete ;

• preparation of the repair surface and perimeter ;

• surface and reinforcing steel cleaning.
