1. Explosive demolition methods

1.1 Methods used

Until 1986, the engineer had only 2 options for blasting buildings:

  • slow lightning (figure 1 a ), which involves collapsing the building in on itself in about ten seconds;

  • the tilting of the building by means of a low hinge (figure 1 b ), after opening a front corner with an explosive (like a woodcutter cutting the bottom of a tree with an axe).
