3. Behavioral laws

The choice of behavior law is an essential step in numerical modeling, and it is essential to understand the various complexities involved in order to analyze the results effectively.

A behavioral law is a conceptual model that links deformations to stresses by bringing into play two essential concepts: elasticity and plasticity.

These two concepts are described below.

  • In the elastic field

    Stress increments are "proportionally" related to strain increments by various parameters characterizing the behavior of the material under study: Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio in general.

    Nevertheless, different levels of complexity can be considered and will be described in detail: nonlinear elasticity, anisotropy, etc.
