2. Terminal infrastructure
All port terminals, whatever their traffic (passengers, oil, containers, bulk solids, etc.), include infrastructure structures for berthing and mooring ships, and superstructure structures for handling and storage.
This section deals with terminal infrastructure. Firstly, it classifies the various types of berthing structures from a functional point of view, i.e. according to the roles fulfilled by the structure. It then examines the characteristics common to these various types (dimensions, loads supported, general calculation method). Finally, we present the main structures used in practice, which can be classified into different categories.

There are no French or international standards or regulations specific to the design of port infrastructure structures. There are only DTUs, CCTGs applicable to civil engineering structures in general, and Eurocodes.
On the other hand, a number of national and international organizations listed under the heading "Organizations" have drawn up recommendations for these structures.
