3. Designing parts for galvanizing

3.1 Steel selection

The results obtained during hot-dip galvanizing depend in part on the steels used, and in particular on their chemical composition. When steel is immersed in liquid zinc, a metallurgical reaction (diffusion) occurs between the zinc and the steel.

Coating formation rate and structure depend on the silicon and phosphorus content of the steel.
