2. General information on geophysics

2.1 Definition of geophysics

Applied geophysics is the discipline of studying (observing, measuring) a physical field on the ground surface or in cavities dug into the ground. This physical field, whose origin may be natural or induced, depends on one or more parameters characteristic of the materials whose distribution in the ground is to be determined.
