10. Conclusion

This article illustrates the variety of geomembranes currently available. It should be noted that the variety is even greater than it appears in this article, as some geomembranes little used in France and some still experimental geomembranes are not mentioned. This article also shows that, despite the many spectacular projects successfully built and operated over the last 50 years, there is still room for improvement. New types of geomembranes are likely to emerge. In particular, the development of composite geomembranes, i.e. geomembranes made up of several components with complementary properties, is foreseeable.
