4. Specifications for use

4.1 Pavement engineering

Specifications for use have been set according to heavy traffic, the position of the layer in the pavement structure, and the road technique used for its production (treated or untreated, mainly with a hydraulic or hydrocarbon binder). They are all the more demanding the heavier the traffic, the closer the layer is to the road surface, the more flexible the binder, the lower its dosage and the longer its setting time, and the weaker the mechanical properties of the road product used. They also take into account the possible heterogeneity of aggregate supplies and a common level of site hazards.
