2. Properties of quarried rocks
Aggregates borrow a large proportion of their properties from the rocks from which they are derived, and in particular all their intrinsic characteristics, i.e. those that depend on mineralogical composition and petrographic texture.
2.1 Base minerals
Rocks are made up of assemblages of minerals. The most widespread minerals in the earth's crust are silicates (around 90%). The rest include carbonates, metal oxides, sulfates, sulfides, etc.
