1. Clay and plasticity

Production mixes for terracotta products are based on clays, which are mainly hydrated aluminum phyllosilicates. The prefix phyllo indicates that these silicates are in sheet form. They are products of the chemical degradation of the components of the original magmatic rocks, in particular the feldspars and micas of granites, according to a reaction of the type :
