4. Section and component strength
Application of the EC 3-DAN criteria given in this section provides simultaneous protection against the risks of section plasticization and component instabilities such as buckling or tilting. The criteria are presented successively from the simplest to the most complex case; the table summarizes the various situations considered and the corresponding paragraphs.
4.1 Simple bending
This corresponds to the current situation where the beam is bent in its main plane of symmetry. The only loads in the component sections are the shear force V and the bending moment M.
