6. Conclusions

Known and appreciated for several millennia, simple in its composition and presentation, apparently easy to manufacture, air lime is in fact a material with multiple functionalities that have only been truly explored relatively recently, over the last two centuries. Modern, sophisticated manufacturing technologies were then developed to better meet the requirements of applications, which have diversified considerably, and of different users, from industrialists to private individuals.

Recent advances in analytical and research resources and methods have advanced our knowledge of the product and enabled us to better understand and interpret the behaviours behind certain functionalities.
