INTRODUCTION
The window's closed function covers two aspects:
control of air permeability ;
thermal resistance.
The latter is the result, in proportion to their respective areas, of that of the glazing and that of the frame (and therefore that of the wood).
What's new in recent years is the development of low-emissivity, rare-gas-filled glass, which offers better thermal resistance than wood frames. This can lead to a rethink of the window's overall design.
The window's closed function contributes to that of the building. It must therefore be guaranteed for the long term. Service life is achieved through the choice of :
sound assembly techniques (see [ ]);
wood with natural or conferred durability adapted to needs.
The "Windows and exterior doors" section includes the following items:
Basic functions and terminology ;
Designing the frame-sash connection ;
Assembly techniques ;
Fillings. Sealing profiles ;
Implementation ;
Thermal analysis. Choice of wood [C 3 615] ;
Stability of doors and patio doors .
